Dog-friendly Beaches

Southwold Denes

Situated south of the pier, Southwold’s picturesque seafront welcomes canine companions year-round. This peaceful stretch of beach provides a wonderful space for your four-legged friends to roam and explore. Adding to the appeal, the nearby Gun Hill Cafe offers a delightful doggy menu, featuring sausages and something sweet. Find out more about Southwold’s beaches in our handy beach guide.

Covehithe

Nestled between the coastal towns of Southwold and Lowestoft, Covehithe is a tranquil, secluded beach that has recently gained recognition from the Sunday Times and The Telegraph. This sandy beach features a captivating, one-of-a-kind landscape, with iconic weathered, sculpture-like trees branching from the sand. However, significant erosion over time has rendered the beach only accessible by foot or bicycle. Despite the lack of facilities, Covehithe’s remote setting makes it a popular destination for dog walkers seeking a peaceful, natural escape.

Walberswick

Walberswick beach, just across the River Blyth from the popular seaside town of Southwold, is a favourite destination for families and dog owners. The beach features a mix of stone and sand, with a nature reserve to the north. Notably, the beach is dog-friendly year-round, and there are ample pet-friendly facilities within easy reach.

Dunwich

Situated south of Southwold, the historic village of Dunwich features a vast shingle beach front, surrounded by marshes and heathland. This idyllic beach makes an excellent destination for dog walkers seeking a peaceful stretch, as it welcomes canine companions year-round. There’s also a dog-friendly tearoom just across from the car park.

Sizewell

Nestled between the coastal towns of Dunwich and Thorpeness lies the village of Sizewell, home to a rugged and expansive beach that is a popular destination for dog-walkers seeking a peaceful, natural setting for their canine companions to explore. While a convenient car park is available, visitors should note that there are no amenities in the immediate vicinity, with the nearest option being Sizewell Tea, located slightly further inland.
