Crabbing

Crabbing is a lovely coastal activity for all the family to join in with. There are plenty of places to purchase crabbing equipment within the village – the main essentials you will need are a line with bait bag, your chosen bait (we prefer using bacon), a bucket and a net. Head down to the Harbour and find your perfect spot.

For nearly 30 years Walberswick was home to the British Open Crabbing Championships where many people gathered to take part in the annual crabbing competition, but sadly the competition finished in 2010.

Walberswick Ferry

Enjoy a unique rowing boat experience across the Harbour to Southwold in as little as few minutes, which if you were to reach Southwold by car would take around twenty minutes.  This traditional family run ferry operates daily from April – October and is a lovely way to sit back and relax.

Dog-Friendly Beach

Unlike its neighbour in Southwold, Walberswick’s beach is dog-friendly all year round, so it’s a popular choice with dog walkers, families, and day-trippers. The beach is the perfect combination of shingle and sand so there’s heaps of family fun to be had here. Paddle in the shallow water and don’t forget to bring along your buckets, spades and kites, or you can pick some up from the local shops in the village and have a fun day by the sea.

Visit Southwold

Access to the popular town of Southwold is easy from Walberswick, where you can opt to take the ferry mentioned above or take a walk across the Bailey Bridge. Southwold has a bustling High Street with independent gift shops, cafes, well-known clothing brands and restaurants, plus many iconic Suffolk buildings including its quirky Pier and commanding Lighthouse. 

Eat Out

Walberswick boasts two popular pubs – the award-winning Anchor and The Bell Inn. The Anchor, located in the centre of the village, is nestled within an acre of grounds overlooking the village allotments and out towards the sea. The Anchor use locally sourced produce to create their menus – expect to see Blythburgh ham and Lowestoft seafood in their various dishes. The Bell Inn is a traditional Adnams pub full of historic charm. The menu offers locally sourced ingredients to create home-cooked dishes and their fish ‘n’ chips are not to be missed!

As well as the pubs there is also some lovely cafes/tearooms within Walberswick to discover. The Black Dog Deli, located at the beginning of the village is a fantastic delicatessen with an array of artisan bread, cheese, chutneys and jams plus cakes and pastries. Table and chairs are dotted around the deli for you to enjoy a freshly brewed coffee. There is also The Tea Shed, located just before the charming Green, and is a wonderfully traditional setting serving delicious cakes, afternoon teas, sausage rolls and more!
