Footbridge over the River Blyth to close for vital refurbishment work

The bailey bridge crossing the River Blyth and connecting Southwold with Walberswick is set to close on Friday 2 July 2021 to enable vital refurbishment works to take place.

Following an independent inspection of the bridge at the end of April 2021, it was confirmed that repairs and refurbishment works need to be undertaken without delay to address significant defects and replace key structural members. Repair works and refurbishment need to be undertaken at the earliest opportunity to ensure the safety of the public. The bridge is expected to be closed until the end of September 2021, whilst the works are in progress.

To reduce the disruption that the bridge closure may cause, additional ferries are being put on by Walberswick Ferry Co. The ferry will operate daily from 9.30am to 6pm from its usual place further along the river.
