Life's a Beach...Hut!

Southwold. One of Suffolk’s most popular coastal towns and a thriving holiday hotspot, famous for its quirky pier, beautiful sandy beach, rustic harbour, eclectic High Street and the pretty beach huts that line the promenade.

Come rain or shine, there’s something rather magical about a peaceful day spent in a beach hut. In the summer there can be nothing more glorious than arriving at your hut early in the morning and enjoying the rising sun shining on your face as you savour a coffee and bacon sandwich rustled up on your gas stove. In the colder months sitting with a good book or newspaper, a blanket, a hot drink and the sound of the wind and the sea is quite the tonic.

Of course, days at a beach hut don’t have to be peaceful. Many a child has created special memories of energetic and fun-filled ‘bucket and spade’ days at Southwold, with picnics and laughter at the beach hut. There’s also many a milestone birthday, anniversary, Christmas or New Year been celebrated along Southwold Prom.

Southwold’s beach huts have, over the years, become some of the most desirable in the country. Most are privately owned family heirlooms passed down from generation to generation together with the memories and stories that have been made there. But on the rare occasion that one does come to market, sale prices can reach hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Durrants Holiday Cottages has over 20 Southwold beach huts available to hire by the week from the royal huts on the sand just south of Gun Hill, up to the huts on the promenade at North Beach. You can view the full collection here. Whether you’re looking for a fun-filled family week, or a week of beachside tranquillity to calm the soul, you’ll find a hut just perfect for you.
