Our favourite places for fish and chips in Southwold

A holiday to Southwold wouldn’t be the same without sampling some traditional fish ‘n’ chips.

Southwold offers some of the best fish ‘n’ chip shops in the county and being right on the Suffolk coast means most eateries offer the catch of the day.

There are plenty of dining options to choose from – from takeaway chip shops to formal restaurant dining. Whether you prefer haddock to cod, garden peas to mushy peas, we’ve handpicked our favourite places to sample this tasty British classic.

And always, all our recommendations have been tried and tested by our local team of course!

Mrs T’s, Southwold

Situated on the picturesque Harbour with outdoor seating perfectly positioned for taking in the glorious views across the waters to Walberswick, Mrs T’s is a great choice. It’s no surprise it’s recommended highly on Tripadvisor and welcomes familiar faces year upon year.

Top tip from our team: Make sure you remember to take cash with you as they don’t accept card payments.

The Little Fish and Chip Shop, Southwold

The Little Fish and Chip Shop is one of the newest fish ‘n’ chip shops in town, located just off the High Street in East Street. Offering takeaway classics such as haddock, plaice and skate you can also pick up fresh fish – details of which are usually listed on their advertising boards outside the premises.

Top tip from our team: If you love seafood we highly recommend trying their shellfish platters which can easily serve two and are available in different varieties.

The Harbour Inn, Southwold

A popular choice with locals and visitors alike, The Harbour Inn is a delightful Adnams pub located along Blackshore on Southwold’s Harbour. This traditional fisherman’s pub has an extensive history (check out the flood level indicator from 1953) is a great place to take a break from competitive family crabbing or a scenic walk across the Suffolk coastline. Their fish is caught locally wherever possible and there are plenty of other seafood dishes available to try.

Top tip from our team: The Harbour Inn serves food all day from midday so no need to race against the clock!

Staying with Durrants Holiday Cottages means you’re never too far away from this tasty treat. All our lovely Southwold cottages are within close proximity to lots of fish ‘n’ chip shops waiting to be discovered.
