Our Favourite 3 Places to Dine this Spring

Spring is one of the best seasons for fresh, local produce and here on the Suffolk Coast many restaurants develop their menus to showcase some of the most popular seasonal ingredients within their dishes.

From asparagus locally grown just a few miles from us here in Southwold to rhubarb grown on the banks of the River Stour on the border between Suffolk and Essex, it’s no wonder Suffolk is known as a ‘foodie destination’ county. We are lucky to have a huge selection of fantastic restaurants at our fingertips just waiting to be discovered. Keep reading to find out where you can indulge in some delicious, locally sourced dishes in restaurants in Southwold and the surrounding area.

The Angel Inn, Wangford

Just three miles from the centre of Southwold and easily accessible from the A12, The Angel Inn at Wangford is a historic pub which has been transformed into a wonderfully bright restaurant with traditional pub on one side and roaring woodburner, perfect for taking the chill off your day. Run by Moss and Co, The Angel is popular with locals and visitors alike. There’s a good size car park and beer garden with garden benches and parasols. The Angel Inn offers Sunday roast dinners too, look out for the ‘Angel Sharer’ which is a selection of locally sourced meat and all the expected trimmings to share. We recommend booking ahead as it does tend to get busy at the weekends.

The Fox Inn, Darsham

Located in the village of Darsham, close by to Westleton and less than 10 miles from the seaside town of Southwold, this country style pub is incredibly popular and well worth a visit. The Fox Inn is family-friendly and dog-friendly too, with food served daily from midday until 9.00pm. Using the freshest ingredients, dishes include burgers, salads, and pub classics, plus their Sunday roasts are extremely popular in the area. The Fox Inn has a small outdoor patio area with garden benches and parasols for al-fresco dining, plus the added benefit of a small parking area, but due to the pubs popularity it can be busy. This is the perfect pit stop for those exploring the heritage coast by bicycle.

Loaded, Southwold

Why not try something a bit different when staying in Southwold? A visit to Loaded in Southwold is sure to fill big appetites, and little appetites too! This American style diner opened in Southwold in 2022 and is a great choice for friends, families, and couples. Choose from juicy burgers, nachos, waffles, and toppings, loaded fries and salads – there’s sure to be something for everyone. Located on Victoria Street in Southwold next to the Adnams Cellar and Kitchen store, Loaded is open Wednesday – Sunday and welcomes bookings and walk-ins. Why not try a Sunday Lunch too, all the trimmings served in a giant Yorkshire pudding!

The Suffolk Coast is brimming with truly fantastic restaurants with fresh, locally caught seafood, poultry, game and more.
