We’ve listed a few of our ‘must-do’ experiences when visiting Suffolk below, but for a full list of our recommendations take a look at our Suffolk Area Guide.

Thrilling adventures on the Coastal Voyager await in Southwold, Suffolk, as recommended by Durrants

Coastal Voyager, Southwold

Great for: Groups

Those who seek excitement will appreciate this water-based adventure presented by the Coastal Voyager team. The Voyager is an inflatable boat that accommodates as many as twelve individuals. Begin your journey at Southwold and venture out to sea, touring Solebay and spotting seabirds and, if you’re lucky, seals along the route.

If you prefer a more relaxed outing, the River Blyth cruises are highly recommended. A serene journey through the Blyth Estuary, abundant in birdlife, might be exactly what you are looking for.

Discover Fishers Gin Distillery in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, experiences recommended by Durrants

Fishers Gin Distillery Tours, Aldeburgh

Great for: Groups or couples

Fishers Gin Distillery is situated on the beach in the seaside town of Aldeburgh. This lovely distillery opened its doors in 2020 and offers a variety of tours all year long. A typical tour consists of a tutored tasting experience, botanical tea-making, a distillery tour, and a virtual tour of the River Alde. For gin aficionados, this is an opportunity not to be missed!

Pick Your Own Flowers, Southwold

Great for: Families or couples

A delightful way to enjoy an hour or two wandering through rows of vibrant, homegrown flowers to choose and assemble your own floral arrangement. The Pick Your Own experience at Southwold Flower Company is ideal for personal enjoyment, as a gift, or for children to try their hand at filling their own small jam jar. The flower farm supplies all the necessary tools for selecting your blooms, offering a range of size options to fill. Following your experience, why not indulge in a refreshment or two? Picnic benches are distributed throughout the farm for you to savour a beverage, overlooking the glorious flowers which surround you.

Hire a boat at Thorpeness Meare, a family-fun adventure as recommended by Durrants

Hire a boat at Thorpeness Meare

Great for: Families

The Meare at Thorpeness has a magical history. Thorpeness is a seaside village which was created by Stuart Ogilvie as a holiday village for him and his friends. His inspiration for the lake was the tales of Neverland from J.M Barrie’s Peter Pan. Reminders of the story can be found when exploring the lake, including Pirate’s Lair, Wendy’s Home, and Captain’s House to name a few. Boating activities on the Meare are a safe and fun way for families to explore the water, with the water being no deeper than 3ft. Choose from a selection of boats including rowing boats, kayaks, canoes and much more.

Flint Vineyard Tour, nr Bungay

Great for: Groups or couples

Engage in a tour of the prestigious Flint Vineyard and winery, where you will be escorted through the vineyards and winery, learning about the fascinating elements involved in producing delightful Norfolk wine – from the winter pruning and the harvest to the innovative techniques employed in the state-of-the-art winery that set Flint apart. Flint Vineyard is in a stunning area with views of the Waveney Valley, near the charming market town of Bungay.
