Make the most of the last of the summer sunshine and head to Southwold this September. With warm sea temperatures, quieter shops and more holiday choice, September is a fantastic time of year to visit this stunning part of the Suffolk coastline.

Breakfast along Southwold Harbour

Get your day off to the best start and enjoy a scrummy breakfast in one of Southwold’s most picturesque locations. The Harbour Café is a fantastic choice for breakfast with the option of the classic Full English, avocado on sourdough or if you’re vegetarian how about a vegetarian breakfast bap? What’s more the café is dog-friendly, so don’t forget to bring along your four-legged friend for breakfast and a scenic stroll along the Harbour towards the beach.

Make Your Own Gin at Adnams

With the recent popularity in drinking bespoke gin it’s no surprise that crafting your very own gin is high on our September agenda! Visit the famous Adnams Brewery and learn how to craft your very own gin using a wide selection of flavours and aromas. A tasting session is also included where you can sample some of the latest Adnams creations plus all the classics. Best of all you get to take your creation home with you, plus a free gift.

Beach fun at Covehithe

Great for: Nature lovers, couples
Distance from Southwold: Approx 5 miles from Southwold and just 10 minutes by car

Covehithe is a relatively unknown stretch of beach north of Southwold. Unlike most Suffolk beaches dogs are allowed on the beach at Covehithe all year round which makes it a popular beach for dog walkers. Whilst there are no facilities available such as cafes, toilets and pubs, this beach is ideal for those looking for a little peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of busier towns. We think it’s the best place for a quiet paddle and a sunbathe – just remember to bring all essentials for some traditional beach fun. If you’re bringing little ones be aware that the cliffs are sadly eroding and therefore supervision is advisable at all times when walking down towards the beach.

RSPB Nature Reserve at Minsmere

Great for: Nature lovers, ramblers and families
Distance from Southwold: Approx 11 miles away from Southwold and a 30 minute drive

The RSPB Minsmere Reserve is a must-see on your Southwold holiday. Explore coastal scenery, woodland and wetlands whilst watching some amazing sights of wildlife in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Throughout the month of September there are plenty of events for all ages taking place at RSPB Minsmere. Book a sunset walk and spot starlings and marsh harriers along the way, or if you fancy trying birdwatching then there are various beginner’s birdwatching mornings throughout the calendar month. For families there’s an opportunity to discover Minsmere by 4×4, known as the ‘Minsmere Safari’, and for younger ones there’s lots of activities to celebrate Bertie Bittern’s birthday!
